Production Operative - Gen Sets
Allam Power is accepting applications for an experienced production operative to join our small team of assembly workers at our manufacturing facility in Melton, East Yorkshire.
This is a rare opportunity to join a small team of experienced fitters in a production facility which assembles diesel generating sets from 8 to 2500kva.
You would be joining Allam Power at an exciting time in the development of the company, having just gained ISO:9001 accreditation, and with ambitious plans for growth.
Full training on our products will be provided, but you’ll need a good basic understanding of mechanical and electrical assembly. If you’re right person, you’ll also have an excellent work ethic, a good understanding of safe working practices and an eye for detail.
Reporting to the Production Foreperson, this role is vital to the success of Allam Power as we strive to maintain quality standards, maximise efficiencies, and drive innovation.
Job Description
Your key direct responsibilities will include:
- Assembling mechanical and electrical components, including wiring, engines, alternators, and control panels following technical drawings and workorders.
- Using hand tools, power tools, and other machinery to fit and secure parts.
- Inspecting components and assemblies for defects or deviation from specification.
- Documenting and reporting any discrepancies and taking corrective action as required.
- Troubleshooting and repairing faulty components or assemblies.
- Assisting in managing inventory of assembly components and tools.
- Report low stock levels to the Production Foreperson to ensure timely replenishment.
- Working closely with other assembly workers, supervisors, and quality control personnel.
- Communicating any production issues or delays to the Production Foreperson.
- Participating in team meetings and contributing positively to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Getting involved in general site engineering and prototype projects, where required.
All members of our production team have key responsibilities for their own safety, as well as the safety and wellbeing of their colleagues. These responsibilities include:
- Support in accident, incident and near miss investigations by providing statements and evidence where required.
- Follow and adhere to risk assessment controls, Safe Systems of Work and PPE requirements.
- Report Accidents, incidents and near misses immediately.
- Take responsibility for your own health and safety and others that may be affected by your actions.
Person Specification
If you’re the right person for this role, you’ll be reliable, trustworthy and passionate about doing things properly.

Essential:
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy components (using correct equipment).
- Physically able to stand for extended periods.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- A minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) – including maths and english.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work without supervision.
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a methodical way.
- Demonstrable experience in a mechanical or electrical assembly / production role.
Desirable:
- Health and Safety qualifications.
- Basic IT skills, for example Microsoft Office applications.
- NVQ Level 2 Mechanical or Electrical Installation.
- Panel wiring experience.
- Welding experience.
Salary:
£11.50 - £13.90 hourly rate, dependent upon experience.
