Foreman / Forewoman

Allam Marine is accepting applications for a Foreman or Forewoman to oversee the assembly of diesel generating sets at our manufacturing facility in Melton, East Yorkshire.

At Allam Marine, we design and assemble generating sets from 8 to 2500kva, and we are expanding the team to ensure our manufacturing processes are delivered in-line with ISO9001 quality standards.

You would be joining Allam Marine at an exciting time in the development of the company, with ambitious plans for growth and a number of interesting upcoming projects.

We’re looking for a strong, fair team leader who understands the importance of good culture within the workplace – you’ll have an excellent work ethic, an understanding of safe working practices and an eye for detail.

Reporting to the Production Manager, the primary objectives of this role are to maintain quality standards, maximise efficiencies, manage the team and control costs.

Job Description

Your key direct responsibilities will include:

  • Manage workflow and work with the Production Manager to plan production
  • Hands-on day-to-day management of production staff
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes in-line with ISO9001
  • Have an input into material stock management for the production lines
  • Ensure shop floor data is accurate to help with forecasting and ERP
  • Ensure production output meets agreed specifications and timescales
  • Oversee and maintain training requirements for production staff
  • Work with the facilities team to schedule regular maintenance of plant and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation
  • Maintain impeccable housekeeping standards in production areas
  • Implement and maintain a system of continual improvement
  • Provide regular and accurate reporting as required

As an important member of the team, you may be required to play a supporting role in a number of strategic projects related to production within the business, including:

  • Working towards and maintaining the ISO9000 quality standard
  • NPI process for new product development and innovation
  • Introduction of new stock control and workflow systems

Person Specification

If you’re the right person for this role, you’ll be reliable and passionate about doing things properly. You will have a proven track record of performing a supervisory role, preferably in a production or industrial environment.

Central to this role is the effective management of people and systems. If you’re successful, you’ll need to be methodical, structured and organised.

The right candidate will;

  • Be self-motivated and results-driven,
  • Have excellent communication and people management skills,
  • Be able to problem solve in a fast-moving environment,
  • Be confident in providing robust, constructive feedback at all levels of the business.

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role in a production or industrial setting
  • Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management
  • Full driving licence
  • Excellent IT skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • High levels of written and verbal communication skills
  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) – including maths and english

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of production and accounts software packages (Eg. Sage / CIM50)
  • Health and Safety qualifications (IOSH / NEBOSH)
  • Production qualifications
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing practices
  • Knowledge / experience of working to ISO9001 quality standards

Salary:

Competitive – dependent on experience.
